Several weeks ago Bieber was involved in controversy after being nominated for a Black Entertainment Television award. Because Bieber himself is white, and all of the other nominees are black, he did seem a little bit out of place on the list of nominees. However, the nomination does say a lot about how big Bieber has become over the course of the last year.
He announced that he would not be at the BET Awards on his Twitter page, saying;
“Missing everybody out in LA for the BET awards. Just wanted to say I would have been at the awards but this show was booked before the nominees came out, and I don’t cancel shows. I would never cancel a show and let down the fans unless I had to.”
His message certainly conveys his dedication to his fan base. Bieber fans, aptly named “Bieber Fever,” are known as some of the most loyal fans in the entertainment business.
The fact that Bieber will not be at the 2010 BET Awards will take some of the focus off of his unlikely nomination. Many of his fans were likely expecting to see him on the program, but Bieber placed the concert as the higher priority. Bieber continued to discuss the matter on his Twitter account throughout the day, saying that he did not plan for the BET Awards because he was not expecting to be nominated. “Music is color blind,” Bieber said.
